Question by Marlo S: If I register a Domain name at GoDaddy, would I actually own it?
I’m trying to start a website. I’m new, but I think I understand the first three steps. Register a Domain, find a host, and Install WordPress. Doing some research I read a few places that registering a Domain does not mean you actually own it. Is this true? If so, what exactly does that mean? Would I ever be able to sell the site? Someone please explain. Thank you.

It does, if it’s in your name you own it as much as anyone actually can. if some does a whois on the website it will show up with your name.

The domain market of today is one wrought with opportunity. In order to get the goods on the domain name that will make you money, it is important to agree how to buy and sell on the premium market. It takes a great deal of expertise to be able to do this properly, but the good news is that you don’t have to graduate with any special degrees. You don’t need letters after your name or anything like that. You just need the drive to research markets and make purchases based on what names are the most popular. There are two ways that you can make money off the acquiring and selling of domain names. Clearly, you can create a domain name of your own and hope that others will notice. But this is much more of a crapshoot than the art of acquiring and selling premium existing domain names. Here’s how to take control of your own destiny in this lucrative market.

How to buy

When you are acquiring existing domain names on the Internet, it is not unlike acquiring an existing home. Virtual real estate and brick and mortar real estate basically work on the same principle. The longer that something stays on the market, the less viable it becomes for selling at the top asking price. Of course, that is not to say that you can’t buy, make improvements to the site, and then sell at a profit. But there will be certain commitments needed from you after the purchase. For starters, people are rarely able to “flip” a domain name that has been on the market for an extended period of time. Secondly, you do not need a lot of money to turn a domain into a hot property. All you need is a little creativity and ingenuity. Adding valuable content and taking the site in a specific direction can be appealing to possible internet entrepreneurs in much the same way that improvements to a home can add property value.

How to sell

Selling the property can be either very difficult or very usual. So much of it depends on being at the right place at the right time. But by creating quality reasons to buy, your job as a salesman is that much easier. Hosting providers often have a direct link to buyers and sellers, and as such, they can bring a wealth of information for any virtual real estate investor. Know the site’s monthly traffic and existing revenue. More importantly, Know what the improvements that are made will do for the sale price of the site.

The premium domain name is still a viable way to make money, but only if you take the time to treat it like you would any other business.

You have to be accredited by ICANN. Here is the link for the procedure.

You cannot create your own TLDs, they have to be approved by ICANN.

The success of your business depends on a range of factors. Among those factors, promotion and marketing plays a very critical role. There are several ways or should I say strategies one can follow to promote its products or services, but none can be better than advertising it on the internet. We all know how significantly the web industry has developed in the last few years. It is necessary for a business today to make its presence felt on the Internet. Many people also believe that if your business is not there on the web or you do not have a website, in all possibility your business does not exist.

To build a website the first thing you need to think of is a domain name. It is a simple recognition label that defines the existence of some property or individual on the internet. Domain Names are known to be of great significance to any online business. A right name can immensely benefit your website, build your brand and generate monetary gains for your business. It is very vital for a user to invest substantial amount of time and effort to Search for a suitable Domain name, which is exclusive and represents your business.

The user must pick that domain name which it is easy to remember and memorize. The name must be unique and should also differentiate your individuality from others. It should also be easy to recognize and related to your industry. Although at times the user does not get his favored option, it is advised to pick a name that is closest to your preferred choice. Selecting a suitable domain name is also vital for SEO purpose. If a domain name has certain keywords that are related to website’s content, it provides the website with good search engine rankings. Users must also avoid using hyphens or numbers in the name, as it tends to make the Domain Names harder to keep in mind.

There are several Domain Registrars that offer Domain Registration services, so how does one go about choosing a Domain Registrar? The first thing that a user must keep in mind is that the service provider must be an ICANN accredited registrar. The user must also refer to customer reviews about different registrars in terms of features offered and prices. Some registrars also offer some value added services, such as web hosting with Domain Registration. This helps the user to save some money as well as time.

A domain name is the url name for your business. There are many things you want to consider when choosing a domain name. There are different endings that can be used including .com, .gov and .net and each one comes with its own different price tag.

The domain name for your business should be easy for consumers to remember but also targeted for your company. The NameSometimes choosing a domain name is easy. It can be the name of your current business. However, more and more people are starting online businesses, informative websites and affiliate sites where they have to be creative with the title that they give their business. For example, if you have decided to create an online drop shipping company that features baby products, you will want to come up with a creative name for your online store – many of which may be taken. The more creative or unique your name is, the easier it will be to recognize by consumers. Some SEO experts will argue that including a keyword in your name is a better idea, but this can take away from the authenticity of your site and cause it to look more spam-like than anything else. Where You RegisterThere are many different ways to register a domain name. Many people think the only way to do it is through your webhost. On average, web hosting companies price domain registration at .99 or higher depending on the domain name. Choosing at third party company is the best choice for the cheapest domain registration. There are dozens of different websites that offer domain registration. Be sure to pay the additional fee for privacy. Typically this is around per domain name. This will keep your information private from spammers who send out promotional information and other products to business owners – most of which is junk. The Type of Site You are BuildingWhen you are choosing the cheapest domain registration, you also want to consider what kind of website you are building. .Com is the most common suffix for a website but non-profits prefer to use .net and all government related sites use .gov. If you are building an informative site that is based heavily on research for a team or university, you may want to consider using .gov because it helps create a more authoritative website. With so much wrong information on the internet, consumers are looking for credible sites to help keep their information accurate. Your chosen domain name should be unique to you. Consumers automatically negate sites that are too similar to one and another in search engine results. An example of this would be if there are many different sites regarding the 72-hour diet pill. The official website may be 72HourDietPill.com, but then there will be many different “scam” sites such as free72hourdietpill.com, 72hourdietpillreviews.com, 72hourdietpillscam.com, ect. Consumers see these repetitive sites as a bad sign. Choose a domain name that is unique to your business and what you are offering for the ultimate success with internet marketing and business representation.

Question by wgb7l: How do you transfer a domain from godaddy.com to your hosting account?
I registered a domain on godaddy.com and now I want to build my website. My hosting account is hostgator.com. How do I officially make my new domain be hosted on my hostgator.com account? I can’t seem to find any info on this.

Best answer:

Answer by What
For Hosting & Domain
Actually, you can settle your domain point to your hosting /Folder directory and adjust DNS server IP address to your hosting account.

For Domain Transfer
Normally, you can find “Domain management” part of your hosting account at your hosting provider company site page. And then, select “domain transferring” tab to enter your domain name that you want to transfer. Meanwhile, you should go back GoDaddy to unlock your domain; also, you should follow some procedures as verify your authorization code with email confirm…etc. You have to wait 5 days after you complete all the step to submit transfer, finally, you domain transfer to the other hosting company.
However, you’d better consider of 2 things;
1. You have to view your domain contract period; if it gonna expires soon, that’s fine you can do it ASAP. Otherwise, you have to know your registration fee have no refund when you transferred your domain still in your contract period; you can do it if you didn’t care!
2. this is a real domain that you should pay the registration fee to the other domain company for holding your legal ownership permission. I saw hostgator doesn’t really has that, they just said “Domain transfer coming soon and Free?” at the home page. So you have to ask your hosting provider company and I don’t think is free but you might have discount for it!
