Question by : My domain Registrar Screwed Up, what can I do ?
Hi,

I registered a domain name thru a domain registrar.

I gave them my credit card number & Faxed them the front & back copy of my credit card because they asked for it & they charged it & sent me the e mail saying that my order has been completed & sent me an invoice with Reference number & Customer number by e mail.

I was also able to log in through their control panel with my domain as login name next morning.

But few hours after that I was not able to login & thought that there might be some problem with their servers or something.

I waited for the weekend & kept checking my e mails just in case if they sent me some message. 4 days later I still haven’t received any e mail from them.

So I called my credit card & found out that they did charge my credit card but then they also credited back that amount the same day.

My question is :

How can they screw up something like this ?

What legal recourse do I have for their screw up ?

Are they liable for their screw up ?

Thank You

Question by : What is the best free dynamic DNS service, which allows the use of any domain name one owns?
I know lots of them allow one to choose from a list of domains (e.g., afraid.org, no-ip.org, etc.). I want to setup dynamic DNS for my own domain name, which I own.

Registrars/hosts that offer free dynamic DNS would also work, even if it means transferring or registering a new domain.

dynDNS is free (you still need to check out an empty cart) and enables you to associates the ip address of your server with a dynamic domain name of your choice.

Question by resort_pro: I’m a domain name speculator and I’m looking for a really good Registrar service with good domain controls.
I have used Godaddy, 1and1, Netfirms, etc. I want to pay less than $ 10 per domain (.com), and have a good Control Panel that is properly designed for speed and efficiency. For example, Godaddy has a “horrible” way of offering domain control tools. (it’s actually worse than horrible!) But their prices aren’t too bad (under $ 10 per domain). The problem is that I need to manage in “bulk” and alot of Registrars don’t think and/or design their sites in that manner. So I need some advice from you guys please. Thanks.

Question by Leo: Do I have to Switch my Domain name on a Hosting Plan?
I tried to sign up to a hosting plan and the first step they ask is to register a domain name or transfer one.

I already have my domain name registered on another registrar. What’s the deal? What should I do here???

Answer by Alain Suggar
All you have to do is point the domain’s A record and www A record at your hosting provider’s server IP address. Your registrar should have a control panel allowing you to do this. You don’t have to fully transfer the domain to your hosting provider, so just check “Transfer One” to get past that part, then when it goes live, just point the A records as I described.

It works, it works, it works.

If one chooses a ‘content management system’ (CMS) to be built into the website or any other dynamic content to be delivered on web pages, then one needs a hosting plans with database.

DomainName:

It is used to identify the IP addresses. It is also used for URLs which identifies a particular web pages. It provides a domainname registration. Each and every of it consists of a suffix which indicates a top level domain(TLD), but there is only a limited number of such types of domains. For example : org, edu, gov, com, mil, net, etc. As the Internet uses a IP addresses, not the domainname, thus each and every Web server requires DomainName Server (DNS) which translate the domainname into IP addresses.

I want an easier url for friends and family. Some domain registrars have domain forwarding, but not sure if Yahoo will let me do that.

When obtaining a domain name there are several options available, and it is much cheaper than many think. A basic domain name with up to 90 sub domains attached run on average about .00. Furthermore, one is not limited to buying names via a domain name registrar. One can purchase domain names through a hosting company or buy existing domain names from a reseller or an end-user.

It’s easy to find out if your domain is available. First just type in your intended name into a search engines address bar, if the search find nothing available then good news, that domain name is most likely available. Your next step is to enter that same URL address into a domain name registrar search bar. After a 10 second search you will be given several options to pick from such as.com,.biz,.org, etc. I would strongly suggest.com because the majority of people are more familiar with.com.

When it comes to identifying registers selling domain names there are thousands to choice from. A great place to start would be: Google, Yahoo, or Go Daddy all of which are very good and really just come down to price.

If you are serious about your business and you want to avoid domain name hijacking in the future you may want to consider purchasing several domains all at once, such as:.biz,.org,.net, etc… This will obviously cost more, however you will most likely receive a discount while negating future risk of domain name hijacking.

Before you pick a name do a little investigating before you pick a company. Registrar companies are very competitive and therefore are fighting for a smaller piece of the pie. It’s basically a buyer’s market, so you’re in control. Some things to consider are quantity discounts, budget registration, and other premiums. Just remember when comparing and contrasting the cost, to do it on an annual basis to determine the best deal.

Other features to look for, which you may or may not be interested in, are additional features such as: email accounts, email forwarders, and domain parking.

Some times in your search for the perfect domain you may come across a parked domain name, therefore not in use. Most of the time you will find the owner’s contact info on the page, however if you can’t find the owners name, then try a “Whois” search and get the owners contact information that way.

Try to avoid purchasing you names through second hand individuals or professional resellers. These avenues will most likely be more expensive with less support than a typical registrar company. The best practice is to research your options before jumping in. A domain name is probably the most important facet of having a successful online business. It’s how you will become to be known by your customers. So weigh and examine your options carefully before diving in.

You have to be accredited by ICANN. Here is the link for the procedure.

You cannot create your own TLDs, they have to be approved by ICANN.

Question by kcarter_99: How to register and pay for a dot UK domain name from overseas?
I have a client. He wants me to take over his hosting and DNS management. I do this for a living. Know plenty.

BUT: We have a problem. His domain with a dot UK extension was registered by a UK registry that now informs us that they can accept payment ONLY from a UK addressed credit card.

My client has moved to Thialand now and does not have a UK credit card, nor do I.

I need the name of a good registrar who can fulfull the following needs:

1. Ability to pay for dot UK name using Thai / Foreign credit card.

2. Ability to process DNS transfer from existing registrar

3. Easy to use and understand user interface

Any suggestions would be very, very welcome indeed because I am somewhat lost in this matter just now.

Cheers and Thanks
